Analyse and write about different film openings (3 film openings). - one of the film openings should be in a total different genre than the one you wish to do - for ex you create a thriller film opening - analyse 2 thriller film openings and one comedy film opening.

Excellent website with openings which already has the 9 frames extracted for each: www.artofthetitle.com

Guiding questions:

  • What are the conventions found in these film openings?

  • What do the elements in the opening represent? (Denotation and Connotation)

  • How is the credits part integrated with moving images? (Denotation and Connotation)

  • Who is the audience for this film opening? (be specific) What visual elements are making it suited for that particular audience?

  • What genre is the film in? How is this shown?

  • What features of the film opening will you use/not use in your own?

You have an example here:

As in this presentation above, in your post put the 9 grid first, then each of the images one by one with analysis and explanations beneath it as here : https://vanessaisip.wixsite.com/asmediastudies/post/film-opening-analysis

How to use this blog

This blog is, in terms of structure, a mirror of the blog you will create this year. Follow all instructions stated in each post.

Have a brilliant idea? Changed your mind? A specific director's films inspire you? You are enthusiastic about the great photos you took yesterday? Great! You can write all about them in separate posts on your blog.

You should have on your blog at least all the posts that you find here. Of course, you can add extra ones, as you see fit.

Remember: Post it on the blog, or it didn't happen!
