26. Sound

Without sound, or at least without good quality sound, any movie could be an unpleasant experience to watch. In order for your film opening to be complete, you need to make sure your sound is as good as it can be: the voices of actors are well heard, all sounds are synchronised and any particular ones are emphasised if needed.

FOLEY

At this stage you can also recreate sounds if needed - for example footsteps, breaking something, using props, breath of a character if it needs to be well heard to emphasise his/her state of mind, etc. Take inspiration from foley artists and create some sounds yourself.

MUSIC

Then, you can also look online for sounds and music you need.

In the end, after gathering all the sounds you need, reflect and analyse:

- Why are those appropriate for the genre of the film and the shots you have?

Add them to your raw montage and see how your film opening becomes more alive.

How to use this blog

This blog is, in terms of structure, a mirror of the blog you will create this year. Follow all instructions stated in each post.

Have a brilliant idea? Changed your mind? A specific director's films inspire you? You are enthusiastic about the great photos you took yesterday? Great! You can write all about them in separate posts on your blog.

You should have on your blog at least all the posts that you find here. Of course, you can add extra ones, as you see fit.

Remember: Post it on the blog, or it didn't happen!
